1, Core performance features

High carbon silicon composition: carbon content 3.0%-3.6%, silicon content 1.4%-2.0%, dense SiO₂ oxide film is formed at high temperature to isolate air corrosion.
Graphite morphology stability: the structure of flake graphite slows down the thermal stress concentration, but its high temperature strength is inferior to ductile iron or malleable iron.
Upper limit of working temperature: long-term use temperature is less than 250℃, short-term peak can reach 400℃, exceeding this limit is easy to occur oxidation and peeling and deformation.

Strength characteristics: tensile strength 200-250MPa (HT200/HT250), compressive strength is about 3-4 times of tensile strength, suitable for pressure bearing scenarios.
Mold adaptability: good fluidity, low shrinkage rate, can produce complex thin wall parts (such as heat resistant plate with T-shaped groove or oil guide groove).
Vibration damping and wear resistance: graphite sheet absorbs vibration energy, and the oil storage characteristics of friction surface improve wear resistance.


2. Typical application scenarios

Boiler grate plate, heat exchanger support plate (static load heat resistant parts).
The engine test bench has a cast iron floor, which integrates T-shaped groove to fix the equipment and can withstand thermal radiation and mechanical vibration.

Mold die base plate, heat treatment fixture (need to cooperate with annealing process to eliminate internal stress).

3. Key points of process control

Annealing treatment: 550-950℃ high temperature graphitization annealing to eliminate white mouth structure and improve machining properties.
Stress relief aging: 500-550℃ slow cooling at room temperature, reducing the residual casting stress by more than 90%.

Adding chromium and molybdenum (e.g., RQTSi4Mo) improves high temperature stability, but the cost is significantly increased.
The matrix should be dominated by pearlite (HT250 grade) to avoid excessive ferrite leading to high temperature softening.


4,Limitations and alternatives
High temperature weakness: oxidation accelerates when the temperature is higher than 400℃. RuT300 series carburized cast iron (heat resistant 650℃) or ductile cast iron are preferred.
Dynamic load scenario: QT600-3 and other high toughness ductile iron sheets should be used instead.
